Celebrating International Women’s Day at Airship Interactive

Today, we come together to celebrate the incredible women who shape our industry, and to reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering women across every aspect of gaming. At Airship Interactive, we believe that diversity is essential for innovation, and we are passionate about creating a workplace that reflects that ethos.

Empowering Women in Gaming
The games industry has come a long way in terms of gender diversity but there’s still work to be done. Women currently make up only about 30% of the gaming workforce, with even fewer represented in leadership roles. Here at Airship Interactive, we’re proud to say that women make up a significant percentage of our team, bringing unique talents, perspectives, and creativity to everything we do.

“I love walking into a boardroom full of men, all with their preconceived notions of who this unassuming blonde woman is, and then completely shattering those assumptions with real knowledge and expertise. That’s my flex, and that’s how I keep challenging the status quo,” says Viki Freeman, our COO.

Viki’s journey into the gaming industry is a testament to the power of resilience and self-belief. Her path wasn’t easy, but it’s one she’s walked with courage and determination.

“I’m proud to be part of Airship. I’m grateful to work alongside a CEO who isn’t intimidated by the strengths I bring to the table,” Viki adds.

As a proud supporter of the Women in Games Awards, Viki was honoured to be a keynote speaker at last year’s event, where she spoke passionately about the barriers women continue to face in the industry.

“The road to equality in games is still a work in progress,” she said during her speech. “We’re constantly managing heavy mental loads, balancing our careers with our other demanding expectations, and dealing with biases that still exist in male-dominated spaces.”

At Airship Interactive, we know that creating an inclusive and supportive environment requires more than just words, it takes real action. We offer a range of benefits and initiatives to support the women on our team, from menstrual leave to flexible working arrangements.

“We operate with a strict no-tolerance policy for discrimination, with a gender pay gap of just 3%. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone, regardless of gender, is respected and valued,” Viki explains.

Looking Ahead: The Future is Female
While we’ve made significant strides, there’s still much work to be done.

“Women deserve to not only have a seat at the table but to feel empowered to lead the conversation,” Viki emphasizes.

At Airship, we are committed to continuing to push for gender equality in our industry. And while progress is being made, there is always room to push boundaries further.
Viki’s words remind us all:

“We need to stop second-guessing ourselves. We need to own our talents and our strengths because we deserve to be in these spaces. The industry is changing because of us, and together, we can and will push those boundaries even further.”
